2 wagon train
Такими караванами, в которых было от 10 до 50 крытых повозок [covered wagon], в XIX в. путешествовали через континент переселенцы. Необходимость собраться в караван диктовалась трудностями передвижения по бездорожью и опасностью нападения индейцев. Большинство караванов формировалось в г. Индепенденсе, шт. Миссури; при этом избирался руководитель каравана [Captain of the Caravan], который определял порядок движения и выбирал место ночевки, а также брал на себя единоначальное командование в случае чрезвычайных происшествий. 3 Wagon Box Fight

5 Oregon Trail

"конестога" (конестогская повозка)Тяжелая и прочная повозка с широкими колесами, крытая плотной материей; в нее запрягали 4-6 лошадей; на первой упряжке обычно сидели возчики. Такими повозками пользовались пионеры Запада [ pioneer] - до 1850 она была главным транспортным средством, на котором пересекались Аллеганы [ Allegheny Mountains] и осваивался Фронтир [ Frontier], а также главным транспортным средством Орегонской тропы [ Oregon Trail] (начиная с 1843). На такой повозке передвигалась семья переселенцев со всем своим скарбом, на ней можно было перевозить до 8 тонн груза. За это "конестога" получила прозвище "движущей силы империи" [vehicle of the empire]. Esta en activo hasta bien entrados los anos 60, dirigiendo sobre todo westerns, pero tambien thrillers, algunas comedias e incluso varios mu sicales, lo que no conlleva, en su caso, la realizacion de proyectos mas ambiciosos. 1902-1981Sus primeros anos los ocupa en labores de actor de vodevil. Aprende el oficio de realizador de James Cruze, que le da la alternativa en 1934, con Amor en ruta, modesta pelicula de serie basada en una obra de Zane Grey. Su labor como director, con casi noventa peliculas en su haber, entre cine y television, fue anodina, destacando eso si por su eficacia como gestor, lo que hizo que le fueran encomendados muchos proyectos en los que no se deseaba gastar demasiado dinero. Lo mejor de si mismo lo dio en la comedia, genero al que se dedico preferentemente a partir de los anos 40. Trabajo con alguna asiduidad para la pareja Bud Abbott-Lou Costello, manteniendo una importante relacion personal con el segundo de ellos. Su ultimo western estrenado, Zorro, the Avenger (1960), es una sintesis de 6 episodios de la serie televisiva que, con el mismo titulo, produjo Walt Disney.
